the good news is that i have a dog...

my favourite site is ted... a catalogue of talks by some leading thinkers from an annual conference in the states... the videos are brief and each talker has a time limit.
the way maira kalman comes across matches her illustration style... quirky, humorous and never patronising. her illustrations for the elements of style are fantastic.

a site worth digging around

yinka shonibare mbe

these images have been up around sydney lately, promoting shonibare's major retrospective at the mca in sydney... the artist was born in england and raised in nigeria before returning to london at age 17.
these works are stunning - can't wait to get there.

showing until February 1 2009

while i was there: cacharel site

i noticed this quirky flash navigation on the cacharel site.

works well, would be even better i reckon if it was adapted for the follow-on pages through the site.

hero: petra borner

i met petra borner when i did some fashion drawing courses at central st martins. such a cool lady and so talented... the above was a print for cacharel s/s 07. yep! it is cut paper...
her other stuff (view it on her recently updated website) includes penguin books and ikea fabrics...

inspiring!

i like a new camera... yes i do

have been thinking about a leica for ages now... so bit the bullet and finally picked this one up yesterday!
hoping it will be the perfect travel companion (much less heavy than my digital slr, anyway).
the guide is a little intimidating so perhaps i shall just take it out and break it in (carefully)... do any readers have one? any tips? links that you know of?

stay tuned for some experiments!

type + ceramics

I like ceramicist stephanie dearmond's type inspired work...
her image-based site is nice too.

15 minutes

for years now showstudio, established by photographer nick knight, has been at the forefront of digital fashion media. one of their latest projects is fifteen minutes of fashion, by curator Magda Keaney and photographer Giles Price.
it captures fashion designers 5 minutes before and 5 minutes after their showing at this year's london fashion festival.

it is obvious which is which in the case of vivienne westwood...

hero: julie verhoeven

more to come later on she who is my favourite all time illustrator...
for now, an interactive piece from a few years ago, completed for showstudio, entitled forget-me-not

careful. its rated r 18+.

not to take type too seriously...

cute! i wonder what the font would (really) look like?
